Surendra Nath Sen Balika Vidyalaya Post Graduate College is one of the four institutions run by the Sen Group of Institutions that had pioneered the cause of non-missionary women’s education in Uttar Pradesh through its institutions in the year 1898 and has been championing it ever since. The group was founded by Dr. Surendra Nath Sen, a leading philanthropist and social reformer, born in the year 1865. His legacy was continued under the leadership of his son and grandsons, Dr. Siddheswar Sen, Mr. Sameer Kuamr Sen and Mr. Probir Kumar Sen respectively. Today, the fourth generation of the family, Mr. Shubhro Sen, has got involved in the management of the institutions as Joint Secretary of the College.
Sen B.V.P.G. College (Established in 1953) has an illustrious history of almost 7 decades. The College currently offers POST GRADUATE (MASTERS’) DEGREE in TWO subjects – Hindi & Sociology. GRADUATE DEGREES are being offered in Arts and Science from a varied array of FOURTEEN subjects. In the faculty of Arts (offering B.A.), we have Sanskrit, Philosophy, History, Psychology, Political Science, Music Vocal, Music Instrumental (Tabla), Music Instrumental (Sitar), Drawing & Painting, Physical Education, English, Economics and Education. In the faculty of Science (offering B.Sc.), we have Zoology, Botany & Chemistry.
7 new job-oriented self-finance vocational courses have been started from the session 2019-20:
The college has shifted its focus on job-oriented career-building courses that shall help our students get a job after completing the course and get employed and become financially secure. The College’s new motto given by Secretary Mr. Probir Kumar Sen is “WE NOT ONLY GIVE OUR STUDENTS EDUCATION BUT ALSO A CAREER.”
Vocational part time courses like Nursery Teachers Training are also on offer on campus for enabling women to become independent financially alongside pursuing academics.
Our alumni are spread today all over the world working at reputable organizations and gracing respectable positions. Our students come from all over India spanning all boards (ICSE, CBSE, State Boards) and mediums (Hindi, English, Vernacular/Regional).
We believe that only proper education can ensure employment, and it is employment alone that can lead to financial independence of women. And that is the ultimate key to their empowerment.
